Miscellaneous Character Design
These are a variety of characters, some original and others fanart or from references I find online, that I have made over the years that aren't connected to a specific project where there is more work to go along with it. I try to credit all my reference material but if you notice something in here isn't credited or is credited improperly, please don't hesitate to let me know!
This was an attempt to take a template reference and make a character from it.
Self-portrait using a template reference I call "action sprite style". I experimented with this a lot in 2017 but had yet to learn about color theory and hue-shifting.
Portrait of a D&D party from several years ago. These were deliberately done in the Final Fantasy 5 sprite style.
A more recent D&D party portrait done in the style closer to what I use for "The Hedge Wizard" project, though with ramped up detail and texturing.
This is the core cast of Steven Universe. The shading is ultra flat to reflect the art style and I used both the "Hedge Wizard style" and a palette similar to the show. I consider this unfinished.
Two original characters I made using the "LSW" style and a version created by a pixel artist called Bradyapples.
A fanart of Geralt from The Witcher which was done in what I call "Simple Style", which is derived from the Revel In Your Time video and Starbound's sprites.
A fanart of Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn which was done in my "Simple Style" several years ago. This is the best sprite I ever made in that style.
A fanart of the original Avengers team made in my "Simple Style" several years ago. I still really like how Iron Man came out but yeesh, the others could use some work. I should revisit this with more of the characters added in.
A self-portrait done recently in the Hedge Wizard style. Yeah, I realize my hair is the same as Eyvar's!
This is a self-portrait for fun. I'm a teacher and one of my nicknames from kids is "Mr. T-Rex". So why not lean into it? It's also my Artstation avatar!
Redid the Odyssey character sprites in the more recent Hedge Wizard style. They look all right, though I think I'd make more changes on another pass.
Hedge Wizard style FF7 characters. I ended up using a variety of references so there are design elements from the old school versions as well as, especially for Barret and Aerith, their heavier redesigns in the Remake game.
